Houses and individuals in Udine during the cholera outreach of 1836. A geo-referenced analysis with micro-level data

The aim of this paper is to study in depth the spread of the cholera epidemic of 1936 Udine, a small town located in North-east Italy. By making use of micro-level data coming from different sources of the period, we constructed a georeferenced map of the city illustrating the spread of cholera throughout the municipal territory. Data on deaths, their demographic and socioeconomic characteristics as well as on the housing conditions and proximity to canals allowed a very careful and detailed analysis about what areas and sectors of population were the most affected by the epidemic. A multivariate approach, by means of logistic regression models, will provide statistical support to the analyses.
